The Joint Committee on Public Health again reported out favorably the two versions of An Act Relative to End of Life Options, H.2246 and S.1331, as happened last session. Unlike last time, the bill did not get sent to the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing where it died for that session. Instead, the bills remain alive and could be passed and signed into law by the formal end of the legislative session this July.
Now is a critical time to express your opposition to H.2246 to your state representative especially, and to S.1331 to your state senator. Last session, the House Speaker said too much opposition had been expressed in the House to bring the bill to the floor. Your voice makes a difference.
Visit the Patients Rights Action Fund resources page for the many reasons to oppose PAS. Choose one or two to use when you communicate with your legislator. Try to get a group of constituents and set up an appointment if possible.
We must remain persistent to prevent this dehumanizing practice from becoming law.
