I want to let you know about some recent webinars that provide excellent information regarding the assisted suicide debate. Most are from the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition (the group that brought us Fatal Flaws), a Canadian-based organization. Alex Schadenberg is the most knowledgeable person on this topic. He is smart and tenacious, as well as an excellent coalition builder. The US branch of his organization provided the outstanding council that presented the case against PAS to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
The first from EPC is a general update on the state of assisted suicide and euthanasia. At 29 minutes in, he discusses the US:
The next is one is From Exceptional to Routine: The Rise of Euthanasia in Canada with Alexander Raikin, visiting fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. He recently published a report by the same name regarding the explosive rise in euthanasia in Canada: https://www.cardus.ca/research/health/reports/from-exceptional-to-routine/
The third is with Kevin Yuell, with Humanists Against Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia, who is fighting approval in the UK. We often hear about the polls showing great support for assisted suicide. His organization completed an extensive poll that demonstrates people are may think assisted suicide is fine in theory, but in practice they are against it because it is too difficult to implement.
The last one is coming this Saturday, September 21 at 10 am EST from Eat, Breath, Thrive, an organization dedicated to helping people and families with eating disorders. This panel discussion is a response to their recent report documenting assisted suicide and euthanasia given to people with eating disorders. This including several in the United States, where in all districts where it is legal, it is supposedly limited to those with terminal illnesses and specifically excludes those with mental illness.
You can still register for this free event if you would like to participate live.
