Joint Committee of Public Health
Top: Senate Chair Julian Cyr and Vice Chair Jacob Oliveira
Bottom: House Chair Marjorie Decker and Vice Chair Sally Kerans
Hearings for the assisted suicide bill have historically been in the fall. We are soon expecting that it will be posted on the Massachusetts Legislature website here. Three of the four committee leaders – Cyr, Oliveira, and Kerans – have signed on as petitioners of one or both of the current identical bills, S.1331 and H.2246. Though all the hearings have be tough, this one will be particularly so. Praying the Rosary will be crucial, especially at the State House, when this hearing takes place.
What can you do as this season of testimony unfolds for us?
Here is a list. The order is based on how challenging each may be for most, not by importance. Please participate in as many list items as possible.
- Joint us at the State House to testify against the bill (requires registration).
- Testify virtually against the bill (requires registration).
- Submit a written testimony to the committee (requires registration).
- Join us at the State House in support of those testifying – bring your rosary!
- Pray the rosary from home while the testimony is occurring.
- Schedule a meeting with your state senator or representative to discuss your opposition especially if they are on the committee!
- Call or email the committee members to voice your opposition even if you are not in their districts.
- Call or email your state senator or representative to voice your opposition.
- Come out to the Novena to Saint Joseph at Christ the King on Monday evenings.
- Arrange a Holy Hour to defeat assisted suicide in Massachusetts at your parish.
- Pray the rosary with the intention of having these bills defeated once again!
Please let me know if you are interested in coming once we know when it is happening. I hope to arrange carpools or even group transportation depending on the numbers of people coming to testify and/or pray the Rosary.
Here are 8 important reasons to oppose assisted suicide. Use this as a start for writing a testimony, meeting with a legislator, or discussing the issue with friends and family.
